Cycle Movement Strategy: Lupus Street
Following a review of the existing temporary scheme, a permanent scheme has been developed which formalises the temporary scheme with a number of improvements proposed that further improve cyclist safety.
We would like to understand the views of the public on these proposals before a decision is taken on implementing the scheme.
History of Scheme
The Westminster Cycling Strategy provides details on the range of projects that we will be developing over the coming years to encourage more people to take up cycling, to improve facilities for existing cyclists and to improve safety.
The Cycling Movement Strategy Phase 2 is one of many schemes that has been prioritised for implementation later this year, subject to more detailed feasibility, design work and consultation.

Summary of Proposals
The proposals include:
- Buffer zone between existing parking bays and cycle lane to protect cyclists.
- Removal of central islands on Lupus Street junction with Glasgow Terrace to provide additional carriageway width to general traffic.
- Ensuring cyclist safety by converting Westmoreland Place into a one-way street Southbound.
- Proposed green surface dressing where cycle lanes cross side road junctions to reinforce presence of cyclists.
- Reinstatement of cycle lane along Lupus Street from its junction with Turpentine Lane which requires removal of existing residential parking bays to provide a continuous cycle route.
- Refresh of existing road markings where needed.
