Henrietta Street Public Realm Improvements

FM Conway have been commissioned on behalf of Westminster City Council to undertake public realm improvement works on Henrietta Street. Works commenced on 15th January 2026 for an estimated 11-month programme.

The works include footway and carriageway re-construction along the extents of Henrietta Street including sections on Bedford Street and Southampton Street. The construction works are being delivered in phases to maintain accessibility along the entire length of the road throughout the duration of the project.

In order to undertake the works safely, the closure of Henrietta Street to traffic is required. Appropriate diversion routes will be marked on site. The latest information about project Servicing Plans can be found here, which detail impacts on servicing and deliveries.

Looking Back

Phase 1 (Southampton Street and Henrietta Street Junction – Footways)

We have completed the installation of a new kerb line and paving outside The Ivy’s alfresco dining area towards No.1 Henrietta Street.

The new kerb line and paving outside The Ivy’s alfresco dining area towards No.1 Henrietta Street.

Phase 2 (Southampton Street and Henrietta Street Junction – Carriageway)

Paving of the new carriageway on Southampton Street is now complete.

Moving round onto Henrietta Street, we have continued to renew the carriageway by levelling and concreting the area before re-laying the granite cobblestones.

Phase 3 (Henrietta Street Southern Footway)

Works on Phase 3 have commenced as of Friday 17th April. As outlined in previous updates, Phase 3 works are being split into sub-phases to minimise disruption to residents and businesses as we move westward along Henrietta Street’s southern footway, toward Bedford Street. These works are taking place as follows:

Phase 3A: Between No. 1 and No. 10 Henrietta Street (Friday 17th April – early May)

Phase 3B: Between No. 10 Henrietta Street and Co Thanh (early May – early June)

Phase 3C: Between Co Thanh and All Bar One (early June – early July)

The phasing and timings are subject to change. Any changes as works progress will be communicated.

Access to residences and businesses will be maintained at all times.

As we progress further into Phase 3, we will have traffic marshals on site to assist and advise drivers.

Phase 3A: Between No. 1 and No. 10 Henrietta Street (Friday 17th April – early May)

We have begun to break out the existing carriageway between No. 1 Henrietta Street towards No.3 Henrietta Street, to re-lay the cobblestones in this area after levelling and concreting it.

Once complete, this will allow servicing vehicles to follow the Phase 3B Servicing Plan, once Phase 3B commences.

For now, the Phase 3A Servicing Plan remains in place. All alfresco dining infrastructure has been removed from Henrietta Street to enable increased space for servicing vehicles gaining access from Bedford Street during Phase 3A.

More information on project Servicing Plans can be found here.

Looking Forward

Phase 3

During the course of Phase 3 works, we will complete the removal and relaying of cobblestones across the Henrietta Street façade of Covent Garden.

Phase 3A: Between No. 1 and No. 10 Henrietta Street (Friday 17th April – early May)

We will continue to break out and relay cobblestones on the existing carriageway between No. 1 Henrietta Street towards No.3 Henrietta Street.

We will install a new and extended kerb line, lift and retain existing paving, and then lay new paving outside No. 1 towards No. 3. Existing paving will be reused on Phase 4.

A small compound will be introduced outside No. 22 Henrietta Street, an empty property, to store spoil prior to removal.
