Westminster City Council is developing its first ever Sustainable Transport Strategy by directly listening to our communities. This strategy, launching in December 2024, will bring together the council’s strategic priorities, targets, and deliverables on sustainable transport in one clear, evidence-led document.
This strategy will consolidate our existing Walking, Cycling and Freight, Servicing and Delivery strategies from previous years, and align closely with our ambitions on promoting active and sustainable travel in Westminster. It will be a strategy that aims to ensure that transportation services benefit everyone, regardless of background or economic status. The key priorities of the strategy are:
- Road Safety – support the Mayor’s ‘Vision Zero’ to eliminate deaths and serious injuries on our streets
- Access & Inclusion – everyone in Westminster will be able to choose, access and travel safely using sustainable modes
- Health & Exercise – the vast majority of people will walk, wheel or cycle as their main mode of transport to support better health and fitness
- Climate Emergency – Westminster’s transport network will decarbonise to reach Net Zero 2040 and our streets will become more resilient to the impacts of climate change
- Air Quality – Westminster will meet WHO guideline levels for air pollution by 2040, with the help of cleaner transport
- Sustainable Economy – Westminster will encourage fewer journeys and deliveries, and invest in its neighbourhoods to support sustainable economic activity and growth
Community Workshops
Westminster City Council has delivered a number of community workshops throughout June and there is one additional date on the 12th July 2024 3.30pm to 5pm. The aim of the workshop is to make sure that community voices are represented in the design and creation of the strategy and its vision. These workshops are designed for everybody, so no specialist knowledge will be needed.
This workshop will take place in The Happy Hub, 17-23 Third Avenue W10 4RS. Please sign up to attend the workshop here www.eventbrite.co.uk/e/westminster-city-councils-sustainable-transport-strategy-tickets-935572551687?aff=oddtdtcreator
