The Cleveland Street Cycleway is being delivered by Westminster City Council in partnership with Camden Council.

Phasing Plan

Update to Phasing

The current programme is:

•    Goodge Street to Tottenham Street resurfacing: 8th July

•    Phase 12: Goodge Street to Riding House Street: 9th July – 17th July

•    Phase 14: Foley Street to Howland Street: 20th  July – 30th July

•    Phase 15: Howland Street to Maple Street: 31st July – 6th August

There are other planned works taking place within the local area that may affect this programme. To minimise disruption and avoid clashes with other activities, the Cycleway 63 project team has agreed to stand down works if required. As a result, the above dates remain subject to change, and further updates will be provided should the programme need to be amended.

The completion of these works will mark the final installation of the cycle segregation features, associated signage and lining, bringing the Cycleway 63 scheme closer to completion.

Looking Back

Phases 12, 14 & 15

The week of 22-26 June, the construction team returned to Cleveland Street to undertake carriageway resurfacing works between Maple Street and Tottenham Street.

These works were undertaken as part of the final stages of the Cycleway 63 scheme and provide the finished road surface ahead of the installation of the cycle segregation measures. A small section of carriageway resurfacing (Goodge Street to Tottenham Street) remains outstanding and will be completed on Wednesday 8th July.

Looking Forward

Phases 12, 14 & 15

Once the resurfacing is complete on the 8 July, the construction team will return the following day to commence the installation of the cycle segregation kerbs along Cleveland Street. These works represent one of the final stages of the scheme and will include:

•    Installation of cycle segregation kerbs

•    Associated traffic signs

•    Road markings and lining

•    Completion of the outstanding section of carriageway resurfacing

•    Final scheme finishing works

All diversion routes will be clearly signed on site and should be followed where closures are in operation.

While these works represent the final main construction activities for the scheme, there remain a small number of locations adjacent to existing developments that cannot be completed at this stage. These areas will be handed over to Camden Council and completed once the adjacent developments have finished their works.

As a result, some sections of the new cycle infrastructure will not be immediately available for use following completion of the main construction programme. Temporary traffic management barriers may remain in place to prevent access to incomplete sections until a continuous and safe route can be provided for cyclists.

Traffic Diversions

To facilitate these works safely, temporary traffic management and localised road closures will be in place as the works progress through each phase. Pedestrian access to properties and businesses will be maintained throughout.

•  Goodge Street to Tottenham Street resurfacing: a road closure will be in place to undertake the resurfacing works. Traffic marshals will be assisting vehicles and pedestrians where required. Signed diversion routes will be provided on site.

•  Phase 12: Goodge Street to Riding House Street will be undertaken under a marshalled road closure. Access restrictions will be in place on Cleveland Street between Goodge Street and Riding House Street, with traffic marshals assisting vehicles and pedestrians where required. Signed diversion routes will be provided on site.

•  Phase 14: Foley Street to Howland Street will require a temporary road closure on Cleveland Street. Northbound traffic will be diverted via Goodge Street, Tottenham Court Road and Howland Street before rejoining Cleveland Street. Southbound traffic will be diverted via Mortimer Street, Great Titchfield Street, Margaret Street, Cavendish Square, Cavendish Place and Mortimer Street. All routes will be clearly signed on site.

•  Phase 15: Howland Street to Maple Street will require a temporary road closure on Cleveland Street between Howland Street and Maple Street. Traffic will be diverted via New Cavendish Street, Portland Place, Weymouth Street, Great Portland Street and Clipstone Street before rejoining Cleveland Street north of the works area. Signed diversion routes will be in place throughout the duration of the works.

Motorists are advised to allow additional time for journeys and follow all signed diversion routes while these works are underway. Pedestrian access to all properties and businesses will be maintained throughout the works.
