Introduction
Westminster City Council, is proposing to deliver a new cycle route, Cycleway 51 along Hamilton Terrace. This cycle route would link with the section of proposed Cycleway 51 from St John’s Wood to Marleybone. More information on this route can be found here. The proposed cycleway is part of the Westminster Cycle Route Programme and would become part of the London wide Cycleway Network (previously known as Cycle Superhighways and Quietways).
The roads (which we refer to as “the route”) which the proposed cycleway takes were consulted on in 2016 and approved by Cabinet Member in the previous administration in 2021. The route itself is not subject to further consultation.
In September-October 2023 we consulted on Section A and B of the route, found here. Overall, 787 responses were received.
This Proposal - Section C
This proposals, and the subject of this consultation, have been updated to reflect the latest national guidance and recent traffic conditions. The scheme aims to enhance cycle safety along Hamilton Terrace and will benefit all people who want to walk and cycle in the area, particularly those wishing to avoid some of the busier, highly trafficked main roads. We are looking at three potential options for Hamilton Terrace and would like to hear your views by 16 April 2025. Complete the questionnaire tab to have your say.

Proposals
The scheme aims to enhance cycle safety along Hamilton Terrace and will benefit all people who want to walk and cycle in the area, particularly those wishing to avoid some of the busier, highly trafficked main roads. The proposals would provide quieter, safer cycleway connecting Kilburn and Marble Arch via Marylebone Station. We have designed three options.
Option 1: Advisory Cycle Lanes
This option retains the current road layout and introduces a new advisory cycle lane. The cycle lanes will be 0.5m from the on street parking bays. To accommodate the cycle lanes, parking bays and traffic lanes will be reduced to 1.8m and 3m respectively.
This option will have no impact to the current traffic flows and parking provision.
Each of the three options includes advanced stop lines for cyclists, this is a box at the traffic lights where people cycling can wait ahead of the traffic at traffic lights.

Option 2: Kerbside Cycle Lanes
This option proposes cycle lanes along both kerbsides. Parking bays will be shifted away from the pavement and a 0.5m buffer will separate the cycle lane and parking bays. Parking bays and traffic lanes will be reduced to 1.8m and 3m respectively.
This option is LTN 1/20 compliant as it provides light segregation from vehicular traffic in the form of parked vehicles.
Overall parking provision and traffic flows would stay the same. Electric Vehicle charging bays would need to be relocated.
Each of the three options includes advanced stop lines for cyclists, this is a box at the traffic lights where people cycling can wait ahead of the traffic at traffic lights.

Option 3: Central Segregated Cycle Track
This option proposes a segregated two-way cycle track in the centre of the road replacing the existing parking bays. The cycle lane would be separated from the road by kerbs.
This option is LTN 1/20 compliant as it provides full segregation for cyclists.
Removal of approximately 90 parking spaces at the centre of the carriageway would be required for this option.
