Greening Westminster Christmas 2024

St John's Kensal Green Church Christmas activation with the Learning Disability Network.

Greening Westminster

Greening Westminster at Christmas

Greening Westminster at Christmas was a test to pilot the integration of activation to the existing process of delivering greening projects. The impetus of this was to encourage greening project teams to deliver a community event to showcase their newly transformed green spaces.

The pilot activation at St John's Kensal Green Church was specifically targeted to those with learning disabilities as this type of group tend to feel lesser heard or visible. Therefore, we wanted to present the group with an opportunity to enjoy the Christmas festivities and feel a sense of belonging to the community to help address the epidemic of loneliness at Christmas.

The event took place on Monday 9th December 2024 3-5pm and included the following.

  • Brief introduction and tour of the space delivered by the host
  • Opportunity to meet and mingle over festive catering
  • Seasonal activity - wreath making and a carol service
  • Group photos

‘’We all really enjoyed the event. It was great to hear about the gardens and make the Christmas wreaths. The day ended with the children singing Christmas songs, so it was lovely, started off Christmas for us.’’

Learning Disability Network

‘’It was really great to deliver a session in a completely new venue for us, with an organisation we've not worked with before. We hope to develop these new partnerships and work with them more in future!’’

Urbanwise

‘’St John's Kensal Green was delighted to host this enjoyable and informative event. We would be more than happy to host such an event again in future.’’
