Construction Update – October 2026

The main works for the Westbourne Terrace Cycle Movement Scheme were completed earlier this year, introducing new segregated cycling infrastructure in both directions along Westbourne Terrace, between Bishop’s Bridge Road and Craven Road.

Following coordination with Transport for London on the final signal designs, the remaining works will focus on upgrading the three signalised junctions along the route at:

  • Cleveland Terrace
  • Harrow Road / Westway Junction and Westbourne Bridge
  • Bishop's Bridge Road

These works will complete the final elements of the scheme, including signalling upgrades, pedestrian crossing improvements, and cycling infrastructure enhancements.

These remaining junction works will be delivered in phases, as illustrated below, to help maintain access for residents and businesses and manage disruption for people travelling through the area.

Phase 1 – Westbourne Terrace (between Bishop’s Bridge and Craven Road) (Substantially Complete)

We have introduced new segregated cycling infrastructure in both directions along Westbourne Terrace, between Bishop’s Bridge Road and Craven Road.

Phase 2 – Cleveland Terrace junction: 26th October to mid-December 2026

Works include:

  • Footway repaving, kerb realignments, and new tactile paving.
  • New and upgraded signalised crossings at all four arms of the junction, replacing the current arrangement where only one arm is signalised.
  • Signalling upgrades to improve cyclist safety.

To facilitate this phase of works, a road closure is needed on Westbourne Terrace at this junction from w.c. 26 October for approximately one week.

Following this, Cleveland Terrace will be closed at this junction up to approximately Wednesday 9 December.

Temporary traffic management will be put in place to direct road users to diversion routes.

Phase 3 (Harrow Road / Westway Junction and Westbourne Bridge): planned from December 2026 to February 2027

Works include:

  • New signalised cycle crossing provisions north of Westbourne Bridge at Harrow Road, improving north-south cycle connectivity to Little Venice and surrounding areas.
  • Segregated cycling infrastructure in both directions along Westbourne Bridge, connecting Bishop’s Bridge Road to the new Harrow Road crossing.
  • Improvements to the northernmost pedestrian crossing facilities on Harrow Road, including repaving works and tactile paving.

Phase 4 (Bishop’s Bridge junction): planned for spring 2027

Works include:

  • Traffic signal upgrades and associated signal works to improve cyclist safety, including advanced stop lines for cyclists on the southern, eastern, and western arms, as well as a segregated cycle lane with signals for cyclists from the northern arm.
  • Improvements to pedestrian crossing facilities on all arms of the junction, including footway repaving and tactile paving.
  • Straight-across pedestrian crossings to better align with desire lines.
  • Carriageway resurfacing works and associated junction improvements.

Other Works

A new pedestrian crossing is planned at the junction of Westbourne Terrace and Chilworth Street.

This will also involve works to introduce upgrades such as tactile paving and new road markings at this junction.

Staying up to date

Should there be a significant change to the construction programme, we will publish an update through Commonplace at the earliest opportunity.

Subscribe on the Homepage to receive an email when a new update is published.

Delivering the works

During our works, pedestrian walking routes will always be maintained but routes may be longer as fencing will be in place along the kerb edge.

Pedestrian access to properties will be always maintained. We will work with you when we are working directly in front of any pedestrian access / egress point or residence.

Details of road closures, if required, will be communicated closer to their start date via news updates which are posted on Commonplace as works progress.

You can stay up to date with these updates by subscribing to our mailing list on the Homepage of the Westbourne Terrace Commonplace website.

We will work from Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm, and, if required, between 8am and 1pm on Saturdays. We apologise in advance for any inconvenience that these works may cause. We shall endeavour to keep noise disruptions to a minimum.
