Budget Choices
How we pay for local services is changing. Before any decisions are made, we want residents to tell us which services should be protected, where could we work differently or more efficiently, and what choices feel most reasonable.
Visit Westminster Council's Budget choices webpage for full details.
https://www.westminster.gov.uk/budget-choicesOver the next four years, we will lose £100m in funding from the Government. It is the result of a wider change in how funding is distributed nationally, which means money is being moved away from areas like Westminster to other parts of the country.
These cuts are unprecedented, so we now need local people to help decide what services matter to them as we face huge financial challenges.
To help offset this reduction in funding, the Government now expects the council to consider raising council tax above the usual Government set limit of 5% next year, having given Westminster special permission to do so.
We will have to review what this cut in funding means for resident services, what cuts we make as a council and how much we increase council tax by.
Before any decisions are made, we want residents to tell us which services should be protected, where could we work differently or more efficiently, and what choices feel most reasonable.
This is why we are asking residents to help shape these choices now.
