Westminster City Council is committed to creating a fairer private rented sector and has launched a 12-week statutory public consultation on proposals to introduce a new private rented property licensing scheme, known as selective licensing.

We are now proposing to introduce a selective licensing scheme which will apply to all private rented properties (not just HMOs) in 15 wards across the borough. This will help the council to tackle poor housing conditions and antisocial behaviour in the Private Rented Sector. If approved. we believe the introduction of this new scheme will enable us to continue to improve conditions for tenants and help make sure the sector is well run and managed.

Before any decisions are made, we are running a public consultation which closes on 19 January 2025. The council wants to hear your views and invites you to complete our online survey, you can also opt in for your chance to win a £50 Love2shop voucher !

We are holding live virtual public meetings for all stakeholders. Our final meeting will take place on  Wednesday 8 January 2024. (Register to attend)

The number of places at each meeting is limited to ensure that everyone has a chance to ask questions and give their views, so if you’d like to attend, we advise booking early.

Kind regards,
