Half Penny Steps Footbridge Public Art Commission
A new mural for Queen's Park Canalside
Westminster City Council have commissioned an artist to devise and deliver an exciting and inspiring new public mural for Queen’s Park.
A local artist, Freddie Denton, was appointed to co-create the permanent canalside mural with local people. The mural was shaped through a series of creative engagement activities to collaboratively develop a large-scale public artwork inspired by the local area.
The engagement took place across two phases:
1. Creative workshops:
Workshops with a Year 6 class at Queen’s Park Primary School explored local flora, fauna and imagery through drawing and mark-making.
2. Community drop-in:
A drop-in session at Queen’s Park Library invited local residents to share their thoughts, memories and associations with the area.
Insights from both phases informed the final mural design, with participants’ contributions embedded into the artwork itself.
