Cleveland Street Cycleway construction update - February 2026

Looking back (early March 2026)

Phase 1

This phase is substantially complete, but the Belisha Beacons (at the new Maple St crossing, outside Efes restaurant) are not yet operational. We anticipate this crossing will be brought into use following completion of the Belisha Beacons, surfacing and lining works.

The crossing on Clipstone St is now operational, and fencing has been removed.

Phase 1 – Cleveland St / Clipstone St - all fencing removed

Phase 2

The main scheme compound and welfare unit that were situated in Phase 2 have been moved to Foley Street (Phase 6). Affected properties have been made aware by the Public Liaison Officer.

Phase 3

Phase 3 is substantially complete. Tree pit resin has been applied to both trees, and all fencing has been removed from this area.

Phase 4

FM Conway have substantially completed works at the Cleveland Street / New Cavendish Street/ Howland Street junction, and the majority of our fencing has been removed.

Yunex, TfL’s signal contractor have installed the new traffic signals.

Phase 6

The team began work at the Foley Street / Cleveland Street junction, on 23d February.

Outside the King and Queen pub we have installed new kerbs and the majority of the paving and tactile paving. We are awaiting Belisha Beacon installation.

On the opposite side of Foley Street, we have excavated and installed all new kerbs, paving and tactile paving, apart from a small section where new signage is expected.

Phase 9

Due to space restrictions around the Riding House junction (Phases 7 and 8) the team began work at Phase 9 (the Cleveland Street / Tottenham Street junction) on Monday 9 March.

Fencing and traffic management were put in place for excavations on the northern side of the junction.

Looking forward (late March 2026)

Phase 4

Yunex will complete the installation and testing of the new traffic signals around the Cleveland Street / New Cavendish Street/ Howland Street junction. The temporary signals will be removed once the new traffic signals are commissioned by TfL.

Phases 5, 7 and 8

There is a delay to works outside Bedford Passage and Middlesex House. More information will be provided in a future update.

Phase 6

Paving the Foley Street / Cleveland Street area will resume, once the Belisha Beacon has been installed.

Phase 9

We will complete excavations on the northern side of the Tottenham Street / Cleveland Street junction, before installing the new kerbs and new dropped kerb for the informal crossing across Tottenham Street. We will be removing existing small setts and replacing them with new concrete pavers.

Once complete we will move to the southern side this junction, to remove existing kerbs and paving, install a new dropped kerb for the informal crossing across Tottenham Street, as well as a new dropped kerb for the new zebra crossing on Cleveland Street.

Phases 12 to 15

There is a delay to works due to development works at Bedford Passage and Middlesex House. More information will be provided in a future update.
