Camarillo’s Sustainability Plan: Building a Greener Future
The City of Camarillo has adopted the Sustainability for Municipal Operations Plan (SMP)—a key step in supporting the City Council’s goal of responsible resource management while continuing to deliver cost-effective, efficient public services.
The SMP outlines how the City is minimizing environmental impact while maintaining excellence in operations. It highlights both current initiatives and future opportunities to advance sustainability across all departments.
Fleet Transition to Electric or Hybrid Vehicles
In 2025, the City of Camarillo partnered with the Clean Power Alliance on a $250,000 funding opportunity through the Pathways to Electrification program, to help transition the City’s vehicle fleet to cleaner, electric options. This initiative supports the City Council’s priorities including environmental stewardship, fiscal responsibility, and technological innovation.
A portion of the funding will be used to buy a fully electric transit van. This van will serve as a mobile outreach unit, allowing the City to connect with residents at events and in neighborhoods throughout Camarillo. It will help bring city services and programs directly to underserved areas through pop-up events and workshops focused on community resources and sustainability.
The remaining program funds will help cover the high costs of switching from gas-powered to electric vehicles. The City plans to purchase 7 more electric vehicles in the 2025–26 budget year.
As part of this commitment, Camarillo is actively converting its city fleet to electric and hybrid vehicles—a major milestone in reducing greenhouse gas emissions and leading by example.
Additional focus areas of the SMP include:
Water Conservation
Renewable Energy Generation
Sustainable Infrastructure & Facility Projects
Energy & Building Efficiency Improvements
Community Education on Recycling & Waste Reduction
Through the SMP, the City is paving the way toward a more sustainable, resilient future while engaging and educating the community along the way.
Let’s move forward together—toward a cleaner, greener Camarillo! 🌱
