Westgate Drive Improvement Project
The Westgate Drive Improvement Project will reconstruct the street to meet City of Denton residential standards. The project was divided into two phases, with Phase 1 having been completed in April of 2026. This phased approach allowed us to complete a portion of the roadway before the 2025-2026 school year to help reduce traffic congestion during school drop-off and pickup.
Phase 1 Status - Completed April 2026
Phase 1 Scope - included construction of wet utilities, streetlights, pedestrian improvements, and steel reinforced concrete roadway connectivity from Bronco Way to the existing W. Westgate Drive segment leading to the I-35 access road.
Phase 2 Status - Currently in design phase at 99% with easement and ROW acquisition underway. Construction timing will be dependent on the Denton County Bond issuance and the City CIP.
Phase 2 Scope - Westgate will be widened from Windsor to Bronco Way in both directions with upgraded drainage, a reconstructed bridge featuring sidewalks, handrails, and five new 7 x 6 drainage boxes, along with additional improvements including new water and sanitary sewer utilities, streetlighting, pedestrian mobility upgrades, and expanded drainage infrastructure; additionally, Windsor will be widened to four continuous lanes from Westgate to the I‑35 frontage road.
*Following completion of Phase 1 of this project, it was observed that motorists who were traveling westbound along Bronco Way, were making a prohibited left turn to head southbound onto Westgate Drive. City of Denton Transportation Department is preparing to install a NO LEFT sign at this location to discourage this action. *
