Have Your Say on the Future of Ilford

The Mayor of London, the London Borough of Redbridge and Transport for London are working together on a new long-term vision for Ilford. The plan will guide future growth, including new homes, jobs, public spaces and community facilities, helping to create a town centre that works better for everyone.

How can Ilford be a place to grow, belong and thrive?

Whether you've lived in Ilford for decades, recently moved to the area, run a business, own land, are investing in the town, or regularly visit the town centre, we want to hear your views.

Have your say

Help us make Ilford an even better place for everyone.

The consultation is open until 30 October 2026.

Timeline

Evidence gathering

January 2025 - September 2025
Before developing the plan, we built a clear picture of Ilford today. We gathered evidence on topics such as housing, transport, jobs, public spaces and community facilities to better understand what is working well and where improvements may be needed.

Supporting studies

January 2026 - April 2026
We undertook a programme of technical studies to test opportunities and constraints in Ilford. These covered topics such as transport, movement, housing capacity, heritage, public realm, infrastructure, sustainability and viability. These studies helped to inform and refine the OAPF's proposals.

Targeted engagement

January 2026 - February 2026
We carried out targeted engagement with groups whose voices are often underrepresented in planning, including young people, young women, older and disabled residents, and businesses. Through in-depth conversations, we listened to their experiences, concerns and ideas. These conversations have helped shape the vision and proposals in the OAPF.

Preparing the OAPF

February 2026 - August 2026
This stage involved developing the vision, principles and place-based proposals. We worked closely with the London Borough of Redbridge, TfL, and other key stakeholders.

Public consultation

September 2026 - October 2026
We are now consulting on the draft OAPF. This is an opportunity to share your views on the vision, principles and proposals for Ilford's future. Your views will help shape the final document.

Final OAPF and adoption

November 2026 - January 2027
We will review consultation responses, refine the OAPF where appropriate and publish a consultation report. The final OAPF will then be considered for adoption by the Mayor of London and the London Borough of Redbridge. Once adopted, the OAPF can then be used in planning matters.
