City Announces Relocation of First Responder Docking to Davies Beach

Enhancing Safety and Preserving Recreational Space for the Community

After careful review of the needs of our first responders as well as the recreational interests of our residents, the City is pleased to announce that police and fire docking operations will be relocated to the existing docks at Davies Beach.

Previously, in 2023, the City explored combining first responder and recreational docks at North Cove due to the aging infrastructure at that location. However, recent outreach and community feedback highlighted a greater demand for recreational space and identified potential conflicts between public usage and emergency operations. Davies Beach was selected as the ideal location for first responder docking because it offers a central response point for police and fire personnel, minimizes conflicts with recreational moorage, and reduces taxpayer costs by eliminating the need for a larger new dock at North Cove.

The current dock at Davies Beach is already equipped for this purpose, and the unused slips on the fixed pier will be converted for police and fire equipment—no new piles or major modifications are required. The impact on recreational users will be minimized by only using the unused slips, the dock will remain open for recreational use. The new dock at North Cove will be focused on recreational boating.

The City remains committed to supporting public safety while preserving valuable community recreation areas. We appreciate the input and engagement from residents that helped guide this decision.
