Re-paving efforts expected to start Aug. 5

Whitefield Street, Alleys 41 and 29D will be first to be addressed

Whitefield Street between Shelbourne Drive and Bull Street and Alleys 41 and 29D in the Savannah Green subdivision will be re-paved starting the week of Aug. 5, weather permitting.

Alleys currently closed (Alleys 31B, 31C, 31D, 40 and 32E) will be prepared for paving. Resurfacing of these alleys will follow the completion of Alleys 41 and 29D. No other alleys will be closed until these re-paving efforts are complete.

Thank you for your continued patience and understanding. Contractor crews and Town staff worked diligently to address schedule changes due to unforeseen circumstances and weather conditions. We understand the inconveniences this work has created. All want the work to be completed as quickly as possible.

What this means to you:

Garbage/Recycling Pickup:

Follow actions previously communicated regarding garbage and recycling pickup.

  • Place carts at the back of curbs no later than 6 a.m. on Thursdays (the day of collection) or after 6 p.m. the evening before.
  • Crews will focus on areas under construction in the subdivision first.
  • During the construction period when alleys are closed, residents do not need to move garbage and recycling carts behind their homes (as code normally requires). Residents are free to leave them in front of their homes during the resurfacing period.

Mail Delivery:

Mail will not be delivered to residences during construction. Residents will need to continue to have their mail held. Pick up mail at the Normal United States Post Office, 200 W. North Street, Normal.

Parking:

• No parking on the south side of Bull Street between Montgomery Street and Oglethorpe Avenue or the north side of Perry Lane between Montgomery Street and Oglethorpe Avenue.
• No parking on the west side of Oglethorpe. Move to the east side.
