Savannah Green Streets & Alleys Project

This project will repair and replace streets and alleys, fostering a safer and pleasing environment for residents.

What improvements will be made?

This effort will patch and reconstruct sections of deteriorated roads in the Savannah Green Subdivision. Along with improving the road conditions, the project will repair manholes, inlets, alley underdrains and enhance sidewalks for the benefit of all community members. The 2025 Phase of this project focuses primarily on Chippewa Street.

How long will this project take?

Road Closures on Chippewa will begin in June 2025. Weather pemitting, work should be complete by Sept. 1.

How will residents be impacted?

During this work, access to work areas will be limited. Residents are encouraged to take alternative routes around construction areas.

• Garbage and recycling pickup remains from the alleys as usual. Some residents will need to place their garbage and recycling on the opposite side of the street. The Town will reach out to those residents directly.
• Parking will not be allowed on Chippewa Street while work is being completed.
• The Town of Normal coordinated with the United States Postal Service to identify residents whose mail delivery will be impacted due to the ongoing road closure. The June 13 update provides information about temporary mail solutions. Additionally, information will be posted on doors of impacted homes.

Why is this project needed?

Since its construction in the early 2000s, Savannah Green Subdivision has experienced worsening conditions on its streets and alleys due to premature and accelerated deterioration. This significant issue is attributed to both material and workmanship problems during the initial installation phase, compounded by high ground-water levels in this region.
