Beginning at 6 a.m., on Monday, August 12, Alley 33A will be partially closed for reconstruction. Drivers are required to avoid the area and to use caution when traveling around the area.
Alley 33A runs east/west paralleling Chippewa Street on the north side west of Ogelthorpe Avenue.
A map spotlight of the road closure can be found here: (include link of the road closure)
The alley closure is tentatively expected to be reopened Monday, September, 13, weather permitting.
Garbage and recycling carts need to be placed at the back of curbs no later than 6 a.m. on Thursdays (the day of collection) or after 6 p.m. the evening before. Crews will focus on areas under construction in the subdivision first.
During the construction period when alleys are closed, residents do not need to move garbage and recycling carts behind their homes (as code normally requires). Residents are free to leave them in front of their homes during the resurfacing period.
• Residents on the north side of Chippewa Street between Ogelthorpe Avenue and Redman Street will need to place their cans/totes at the back of curb on Chippewa Street.
Mail will not be delivered to residences for house numbers 920, 1000, 1002, & 1004 on Chippewa Street during the construction period. An "Authorization to Hold Mail" postcard will be distributed to impacted residents at least 48 hours prior to the alley closure. Residents should follow the instructions on the postcard, indicating they wish to have their mail held for 30 days. After the postcard is returned (follow instructions on the post card) and it has been processed, residents can pick up their mail at the Normal United States Post Office, 200 W. North Street, Normal.
No parking on the north side of Chippewa Street between Ogelthorpe Avenue and Redman Street
• Residents that have garage access off of Alley 33A will continue to have access to their garages except for house numbers 920, 1000, 1002, & 1004 on Chippewa Street.
