Savannah Green Update: Alleys 31B, 31C and 31D behind Oglethorpe Avenue (between Whitaker Street to Perry Lane)
Beginning June 12, Alleys 31B, 31C and 31D between Perry Lane and Whitaker Street east of Oglethorpe Avenue will be closed for reconstruction. Drivers are required to avoid the area and to use caution when traveling around the area.
Alleys 31B, 31C and 31D run north/south, all three alleys are behind Oglethorpe Avenue and run from Whitaker Street to Perry Lane.
The alley closure is tentatively expected to be reopened Wednesday, July 12, weather permitting.
Garbage and recycling carts need to be placed at the back of curbs no later than 6 a.m. on Thursdays (the day of collection) or after 6 p.m. the evening before.
Crews will focus on areas under construction in the subdivision first.
During the construction period when alleys are closed, residents do not need to move garbage and recycling carts behind their homes (as code normally requires). Residents are free to leave them in front of their homes during the resurfacing period.
Mail will not be delivered to residences during the construction period. An "Authorization to Hold Mail" postcard will be distributed to impacted residents at least 48 hours prior to the alley closure. Residents should follow the instructions on the postcard, indicating they wish to have their mail held for 30 days. After the postcard is returned (follow instructions on the post card) and it has been processed, residents can pick up their mail at the Normal United States Post Office, 200 W. North Street, Normal.
No change in parking on Oglethorpe Avenue.
