Scarborough Pride in Place

HELP SHAPE THE FUTURE OF SCARBOROUGH

Join the Scarborough Neighbourhood Board

Pride in Place is a long-term Government programme that brings investment into towns to improve places and support local communities.

Scarborough will receive around £20 million over the next 10 years to deliver projects that make a real difference to people’s everyday lives. Funding will support both physical improvements and community activity.

PROGRAMME THEMES

• Cohesion

• Education and Opportunity

• Health and Wellbeing

• Housing • Regeneration, High Streets and Heritage

• Safety and Security

• Transport

• Work, Productivity and Skills

AT THE HEART OF THE PROGRAMME

The Scarborough Neighbourhood Board works with residents, local partners and North Yorkshire Council as the accountable body. Together they help shape investment, improve the physical and social infrastructure of our town and deliver lasting improvements for local communities.

WE’RE PARTICULARLY KEEN TO HEAR FROM YOUNG PEOPLE

Applications are welcomed from people of all ages. However, if you are aged 18–30 and passionate about Scarborough, this is your opportunity to help influence decisions that will shape the town for years to come.

You will gain experience working alongside leaders from business, education, the voluntary sector and public services, while helping to ensure that young people’s voices are represented.

STRENGTHENING AN ALREADY EXPERIENCED BOARD

The Board already benefits from strong representation from community organisations, the voluntary sector, education, local businesses and public services.

We are now seeking to broaden the Board’s overall skills and expertise to complement our existing membership and support the successful delivery of Pride in Place over the next decade.

SKILLS WE ARE PARTICULARLY LOOKING FOR

Applications are welcomed from everyone, but we would particularly like to hear from people with experience in:

• Project management and programme delivery

• Security or community safety

• Business leadership or entrepreneurship

• Regeneration, construction or infrastructure

• Finance, governance or risk management

• Commercial, legal or strategic leadership

• Community leadership or active community participation

If your experience lies elsewhere but you believe you can make a positive contribution, we would still encourage you to apply.

WHAT YOU’LL DO

• Attend scheduled Board meetings, normally held quarterly, together with occasional additional meetings where required.

• Work with fellow Board members, thematic groups and local partners.

• Engage with residents, businesses and community organisations.

• Take part in engagement activities and Task and Finish Groups where appropriate.

• Help shape the future direction of Pride in Place and oversee the delivery of projects that benefit Scarborough.

WHO CAN APPLY

Applications are welcomed from people of all ages and backgrounds.

Applicants must either live or work within Scarborough and be able to demonstrate a commitment to the town and its communities.

Board membership is voluntary.

Board members will be expected to declare any relevant interests and comply with the Board’s Terms of Reference, Code of Conduct and conflict-of-interest requirements.

HOW TO APPLY

Request an application form by emailing:

Regeneration.North-East@northyorks.gov.uk

Completed applications must be submitted by Friday 4th September 2026.

Applications will be received and initially reviewed by North Yorkshire Council’s Regeneration Team and assessed against the skills, experience and representation needs of the Board. Shortlisted applicants may be invited to an informal discussion.

Final appointments will be subject to approval by the Chair of the Scarborough Neighbourhood Board and the Member of Parliament for Scarborough and Whitby.

Help shape one of the most significant investment programmes Scarborough has seen and make a lasting difference to the town.
