Results - Let's Talk Money 2024

Let’s Talk Money, North Yorkshire Council’s annual budget consultation, took place from 21 October to 9 December 2024. You can read the full report on the North Yorkshire Council website. We received 2027 responses to the survey, which asked about council priorities, budget allocation, council tax increases, and the single-person discount for council tax.

What is the budget consultation?

Each year, we gather your views to inform our annual budget report, which guides recommendations for the next year’s budget and the council plan.

The survey detailed the council’s £1.3 billion spending and asked about the importance of various services. The top five services, accounting for 59% of the budget, were:

  • Highways and transportation: 82% rated as important (9% of the budget)
  • Education: 82% rated as important (6% of the budget)
  • Adult social care: 77% rated as important (32% of the budget)
  • Children’s social care: 77% rated as important (5% of the budget)
  • Waste and environment: 73% rated as important (7% of the budget)
