Pipeline is being installed under President George Bush Turnpike

NTMWD Custer Road Water Main Replacement Project

Progress

  • 6,910 of 9,100 feet of pipeline have been installed.
  • Crews are continuing pipeline installation under President George Bush Turnpike outside the northbound lane.
  • Hydrostatic testing of the waterline from City of Plano Custer Pump Station to Plano Parkway passed.
  • Permanent paving is being scheduled in coordination with trash pickup routes. Paving will begin at W 15th Street and Pitman Drive, and move south, currently being pushed to 5/18 to coordinate with the City.
  • Atmos Energy continues to install the permanent gas line installation along Custer Road.

Planned Traffic / Lane Impacts

  • Future traffic and/or lane impacts will continue to be coordinated with the City of Plano.

Neighborhood Impacts

  • Cross streets and alleys between Westridge Drive and Westlake Drive will have temporary closures from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., in sequence as crews move southward for permanent paving.
  • Temporary asphalt or steel plates will be used to reopen streets/alleys as work progresses.
  • Transition from the northern staging area to the southern staging area has been completed.
    • Activities at the northern staging area will be reduced until the contractor comes back to perform tie-in and restoration.
    • Use of the staging areas is to last until project completion, which is currently targeted for December 25, 2026. Schedule has been delayed due to inclement weather.

Timeline / What’s Next

August 2026

  • A shutdown of the City of Plano Custer Pump Station is anticipated for the final tie-in.

Later Phases (Date TBD)

  • Testing/disinfection, permanent paving, and restoration of vegetation.
  • Additional potholing will be performed along Carmel Drive, requiring a street closure and a detour (timing will be shared once scheduled).
  • A future phase will require closure of Carmel Drive between Custer Road and Delmonte Circle (timing will be shared once scheduled).
  • 30-inch abandonment work will likely require additional traffic control phases along Custer Road (timing will be shared once phases are confirmed and scheduled).
