Council Member Initiatives

Roanoke City Council is pursuing three high-priority initiatives. These Council Member Initiatives include review of:

• 2024 Zoning Amendments
• The Evans Spring Plan
• A new Vape Shop Ordinance

Planning staff have been directed to evaluate each initiative based on the goals and policies of City Plan 2040, City Council Initiative concerns, and community input. 

In January and February of 2026, the City of Roanoke held a series of public meetings to gather input on these initiatives. Staff will continue to receive and incorporate feedback through the end of February 2026.

Many thanks to all who provided feedback for the Council Member Initiatives. All input that was received is under review. Based on initial feedback, City of Roanoke Planning staff updated the Housing Density Proposal from what was presented during the public meetings at City of Roanoke libraries. Due to the nature of the zoning amendments, all owners of residentially zoned property in the City of Roanoke will receive a mailing in late March informing them of the amendments and the public hearing dates.
