QVRT Ribbon-Cutting

QVRT Ribbon-Cutting

Southrbideg celebrated on Friday, November 7th at its Quinebaug Valley Rail Trail (QVRT) Ribbon-Cutting. Decades in the making, the QVRT is in its final stages of construction.

Among the day’s speakers were Congressman Neal, Jesse Lederman - representing Senator Markey’s Office, Southbridge Council Chair Scott Lazo, Town Manager “Jack” John D. Jovan, Jr., State Senator Ryan Fattman, State Representative John Marsi, Peter Sutton - Bicycle and Pedestrian Program Coordinator MassDOT, Tom Chamberland - Friends of the Titanic Rail Trail (formerly the Grand Trunk Trail Blazers), Southbridge Town Councilor Dave Adams, Kellan Lewis - Project Engineer, BSC Group, and Erika Burrows - Chair of Central Mass South Chamber of Commerce.

Many came out for this special event to remember all those who came before them to help make this project a reality. The QVRT will help promote economic development along and near the rail trail, offering the region a new trail experience, one with views of the historic downtown and serene natural beauty along the river eventually leading to the Quinebaug River Reservoir at the Dudley town line to the southeast and the Westville Dam to the northwest.
