Knoll Road Multi-modal Trail
The Town of Southern Pines has released the 100% design plans for the Knoll Road Multi-Modal Trail project, managed by our contractor Kimley-Horn. The plans are available at:

- The Knoll Road Multi-Use Path Project will construct a new multi-use path along Knoll Road from Midland Road (NC 2) to Airport Road (SR 1843).
- The project includes grading, paving, and drainage improvements along approximately 1.5 miles of corridor.
- The new multi-use path is designed to improve pedestrian connectivity, accessibility, and safety along the Knoll Road corridor.
- Fred Smith Company has been selected as the contractor for the project.
- A Notice to Proceed will be issued on June 1, 2026.
- Construction staking and utility marking activities are expected to begin the week of May 25, 2026.
- Town staff and the contractor are scheduled to conduct a project walkthrough on June 2, 2026.
- Active construction is expected to begin within approximately two weeks following the project walkthrough.
- The total contract duration is 270 calendar days.
- Construction completion is anticipated in early Spring 2027, with a current estimated completion date of February 26, 2027.
- Residents may see temporary lane closures, equipment activity, and construction personnel in the area throughout the duration of the project.
- Updates regarding traffic impacts, construction schedules, and project milestones will be posted to this page as work progresses.
