Report from the traffic study on Knoll Road

Traffic Study

A traffic study was conducted Mid-November 2023 as part of the design and feasability of developing a mulit-modal trail along Knoll Road including the impact on traffic and vehicular safety of elimination of full-length turn lanes. The ultimate design will be informed by the study, but the study does not dictate the design as the engineers and designers continue to look at how to minimize traffic conflicts, decrease speed, and allow for the multi-modal traffic on the existing roadbed. Expected in late Spring 2024 is the 30 percent design which will allow for wide public input and discussion.

AM and PM peak hour (7:00-9:00 AM and 4:00-6:00 PM) turning-movement, heavy-vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle counts (TMCs) were performed by Quality Counts, LLC on Wednesday, November 15th, 2023 (when Moore County public schools were in session) at the following intersections:
l Knoll Road and Steeplechase Way/Belmont Court
l Knoll Road and Paddock Lane
l Knoll Road and Hunter Trail
l Knoll Road and Longleaf Golf Club Driveway/Highland View Drive
