30 Percent Design Open House and Public Hearing
The Town of Southern Pines will host an open house and public hearing regarding the proposed Knoll Road Multi-modal Trail.
The Town of Southern Pines will host an open house and public hearing regarding the proposed Knoll Road Multi-modal Trail.
The open house will take place from 3-6pm on Tuesday, June 4 at the Longleaf Golf and Family Club, welcoming all Southern Pines residents. Town Engineer James Michel and representatives from the engineering and design firm Kimley-Horn will be present to discuss the initial trail design. Kimley-Horn, contracted for the trail's design, conducted a traffic study late last year.
The public hearing will convene during the regularly scheduled Southern Pines Town Council business meeting starting at 6pm on Tuesday, June 11 at the E.S. Douglass Community Center. At this forum, the Council will be presented with the initial design, and members of the public will have the opportunity to address their concerns to elected officials through the established public comment process.
This public hearing marks the first significant milestone in the project timeline. Further engagements and hearings will follow as the trail design progresses.
Initiated through the Town’s Bicycle Transportation Plan adopted in 2010, this project fills a crucial gap in Southern Pines' trail network, facilitating travel from the Moore County airport area to the U.S. 15-501 corridor. Beyond connecting trails, the modifications to Knoll Road aim to rectify its current designation as a
high-speed, high-traffic thoroughfare.
