SS NAP September Newsletter - Phase 2 Survey Results

Thank you to everyone that took our Phase 2 Survey and came out to the Phase 2 Community Workshop on August 19th. It was so good to see the momentum of our project continue as we progress in putting together the plan - two City Council members even came out to the workshop to listen in on and support the plan's progress!

As part of the September Newsletter, we want to share with you what we heard in our Phase 2 Survey.

Here is a quick review of what we heard are top priorities:

  • Making public spaces cleaner, more beautiful, and safe
  • Adding lighting to sidewalks, parks, streets, and bus stops,
  • Hosting neighborhood pop-up events to share information about city programs and other resources
  • Adding and repairing walking and biking rails that connect parks, homes, and businesses throughout the neighborhood
  • Exploring policies to hold absentee landlords accountable if they don't maintain their properties
  • Providing repair grants to homeowners for help with major needs like roof, plumbing, or foundation issues
  • Along Nebraska Avenue, phasing out heavy industrial and intense commercial uses (like salvage yards or car-oriented service shops) in favor of more neighborhood-friendly places like restaurants, food shops, or general retail that supports daily needs.
  • Repairing potholes and uneven pavement on residential streets
  • Hosting annual city-sponsored festivals that celebrate Sulphur Springs' heritage and community

We are happy to have such strong feedback and direction for your neighborhood plan. If you are interested in reviewing all the results, click here for the full break down.

In the coming weeks, we will be finalizing the recommendations for the Neighborhood Action Plan that we will be presenting at City Council on October 30th.
