Does your home got too hot in summer?

"I am so surprised by the massive difference the awning has made. I had been unable to sleep in my bedrooms before putting the awning up. It has dropped the room temperature between 3-6 C." - Queens Park Avenues resident participating in the trial

As part of our work to help residents adapt to hotter summers, Westminster City Council has partnered with London-based design company Shaded to trial removable awnings for sash windows in the Queen's Park. The awnings are suitable for renters and sensitive to planning requirements, making them a practical option for many homes.

Applications for awnings closed on 21st June 2026. Twenty households are testing the awnings this summer, and we will evaluate their impact on indoor temperatures and resident comfort, and share insights in Autumn.
