What's being proposed
Following detailed review by Road Safety engineers a number of options were considered and the optimum proposal is being proposed.
Local Safety Scheme - Great Western Road J/W Westbourne Park Rd
What's being proposed:

Road Safety engineers consider a number of options, like raised zebra crossings, additional zebra crossing, buildouts, signage and line marking, however in effort to reduce the frequency and severity of 'personal injury collisions' (PIC's) the best solution is to install three way traffic signals to reduce ongoing conflict. In terms of benefits we would see;
• Introduction of three-way traffic signals - This controls vehicle movement giving priority to each flow and therefore reducing the current conflict which have resulted in PICs.
• All around 'Greenman' pedestrian facilities, including 'count-down' timer. This allows safe movement of pedestrian, school children and those with mobility impairment. This targets the three pedestrian PICs, including one serious recorded at this location.
• New pedestrian facility on the eastern arm of the junction - this improves accessibility and reduces the likelihood of dangerous informal pedestrian crossings on this arm.
• Introduction of advanced stop lines - allowing cycles to take priority at the beginning of any traffic queue, improving safety and accessibility for cyclists.
• Footway build outs - reduces crossing distances for pedestrians and allows more space for pedestrians.
• Installation of new cycle stands - encourage cycle use and promoting active travel, with secure facilities to lock against.
• Alteration to the waiting and loading restrictions - ensuring traffic lanes are free of obstruction and access for buses onto the three Bus Stops in close proximity to the junction, improving bus alignment with kerbs and comfort for those passengers boarding and alighting.
• Drainage improvements - to reduce any issues with water ponding.
• Upgrade of the existing public lighting - to ensure uniform lighting across the junction ensuring indivisibility between drivers and pedestrians is unobstructed.
• Lining and signing - advising drivers and cyclists of the correct positioning to ensure the junction operates safely and efficiently.
