Westminster Shopfront Design Toolkit
A borough wide design guide to help businesses improve and invest in their shopfront
Public Art Commissions on Westbourne Grove, Queensway and Porchester Road

Westminster Shopfront Design Toolkit
We have created a guide to help local businesses with the design, alteration, replacement and restoration of their shopfronts.
It supports the Council’s planning policies and is intended to help businesses develop shopfronts that complement their buildings, enhance the appearance of shopping streets and contribute positively to commercial vitality.
Rather than prescribing a single design approach, the guide sets out clear principles to support high‑quality outcomes.
Why use the toolkit?
Shopfronts change over time as businesses adapt and grow. This toolkit helps you make those changes in a way that strengthens your business presence and enhances the character of the building and the street. It provides clear guidance on how to identify suitable improvements and deliver them confidently, ensuring any updates are well‑designed, high‑quality and contribute positively to the high street.
