Council Tax Support scheme consultation
The UK government’s Fair Funding Review has resulted in a loss of £100m grant funding for Westminster City Council over the next four years. This is an unprecedented and significant reduction in government funding. Difficult decisions are needed to make savings and balance the council’s budget.
We’re considering introducing a minimum contribution to Westminster’s Council Tax Support (CTS) scheme for working age people from 1 April 2027, which would bring us in line with most other councils in London. We’re inviting people to tell us what they think and asking whether particular groups should be protected or exempt from the proposal. We want to understand how potential changes could affect different households, to help inform the council’s decision. This is one of a range of options being considered, including increasing Council Tax and reducing council services.
