The Future of Regent Street, Haymarket and Piccadilly Circus Public Realm
Westminster City Council and The Crown Estate are pleased to share that the Regent Street, Haymarket and Piccadilly Circus Engagement Summary Report is now live. The public engagement we held between 3rd July and 10th August on the emerging masterplan and movement strategy for this area received the largest response Westminster City Council has had to a public realm consultation to date, reflecting people's strong interest in shaping the future of this iconic area in the heart of London.
We are delighted with this level of engagement and to be able to continue developing these proposals with your feedback.
Key highlights:
60% of respondents expressed support for the proposed plans to enhance Regent Street, Haymarket and Piccadilly Circus’ public realm, with strong support for our ambitions to improve pedestrian experience and enhance public spaces. Proposals for Piccadilly Circus and Waterloo Place in particular were a focal point of enthusiasm.
People’s feedback at this early stage on a wide range of topics – including traffic, public transport, safety and accessibility – has provided us with invaluable insight as we embark on the next stage of design.
Record-breaking participation during the July 2025 public engagement, with nearly 3,500 online survey responses and 1,500 people taking part in 31 borough-wide in-person events.
We are deeply grateful to everyone who contributed their time, energy, and views. By sharing your feedback at this early stage while design concepts are emerging, you have helped influence the proposals’ direction.
The report sets out in more detail what we heard during this public engagement, alongside a series of recommendations based on your feedback. We are now integrating these recommendations into our public realm design proposals. These proposals will be shared as part of a final public consultation in June 2026, alongside detailed traffic modelling.
Stay involved:
We’ll keep you updated and invite you to have your say on the public realm design proposals in June 2026. Your continued participation will ensure we can create a safer, greener and world class destination in the heart of central London that can be enjoyed by all for decades to come.
