Edgware Road Placemaking Strategy

Commissioned by Marble Arch BID and landowners The Portman Estate and The Church Commissioners, with support from WCC and TfL. Architects and urban designers DSDHA were appointed in 2023 to undertake this work.
The placemaking strategy sets out priorities for public realm improvements and enhancement of the high street. It aims to direct investment and provide a framework for physical improvements.

Retail Strategy, 2026
The Council have developed a Retail Strategy in collaboration with local engagement, landowners and BIDs, which provides a clear, evidence‑based plan to help each high street adapt to changing retail trends and local needs. It assesses business mix, vacancies, local demand and visitor patterns to identify opportunities and challenges.
Because each high street has its own role and identity, the strategies set out tailored actions to strengthen the offer, support local businesses and attract long‑term investment.
This summary presents the key findings and priority actions in a simple, visual format. It complements the Placemaking Strategy by showing how commercial activity can support the longer‑term vision for each area, guide engagement with businesses and landowners, and inform how the Council supports the evolution of these important local centres.
This document is an accessible summary of the full Retail Strategies prepared for local landowners and investors. Full technical reports are available on request at: highstreets@westminster.gov.uk
