North Paddington Canalside

North Paddington Canalside

Since spring 2024, we have been working in collaboration with the local community and key stakeholders to develop a vision for improving the North Paddington Canalside from Ladbroke Grove to Little Venice.

We have now published the full Concept Design Report where you can see and read more about each of the design proposals, as well the Engagement Report which summarises what the feedback we received on these designs.

We are committed to delivering the priority sites. The next steps will involve technical site investigations and surveys, pursuing statutory consents, and appointing consultants to develop the detailed designs in response to feedback.

Two canalside sites are now in construction, at Westbourne Green Canalside and Queen's Park Canalside.

About the project

Email

In March 2024, Westminster City Council began a design project to improve the public spaces along the Grand Union Canal from Ladbroke Grove to Little Venice.

The North Paddington Canalside programme focuses on increasing the connections and access between the canal and the city, improving the quality and maintenance of the waterfront, activating under-utilised public spaces, and preserving and enhancing the biodiversity of the canal’s environment.

We recognise the importance of working with key stakeholders, notably the Canal & River Trust who own and manage the canal, as well as the local community in order to collaboratively develop a shared vision that meets the needs and expectations of all local stakeholders. Therefore, we carried out initial engagement in spring 2024 to understand what matters most to the community and what is feasible.

Funding from the Mayor of London's Green and Resilient Spaces programme has kickstarted this piece of work.
