The mission of the City of Lorain Engineering Department is to provide expedient technical engineering services and advice to all city departments, the administration, and the general public. Generally the technical support is related to design, inspection, and contract administration of public improvements and subdivisions, plan review, grading, draining, and general construction information.

Pedestrian safety improvements throughout Lorain

To ensure continued navigability, the Black River Harbor undergoes annual dredging. Supported by funding from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources and the Ohio Environmental Protection Agency, the City of Lorain's newly constructed Black River Dredge Material Reuse Facility is prepared to receive up to 75,000 cubic yards of dredged material starting in July 2024.
